This weekend saw the 2012 Offshore Superboat Championship being held here in Hervey Bay. I took the opportunity to go and take a few photos. To be honest I wasn't very well prepared for it. The timings of the races were changed but I did not realise and I missed the first race, Doh! The light also made things a bit difficult. The sun was very bright and causing a lot of glare on the water. I did not have a polarizer to dampen the reflections so I had to just make do with what I had. It was also so bright that I could not see the camera screen to check the exposure and other settings. All I could see was a blank screen. I had no idea if I was even taking any photos. Add to this the spray that constantly streamed into my lens requiring me to wipe the lens every couple of minutes and the fact that Offshore Superboats actually race offshore. Even with a long lens it was a bit of a stretch to capture the boats without them looking like tiny dots. The sound these boats made was truly awesome. An incredible amount of power on display. I hope that we get to see these boats again in Hervey Bay next year.
