Today was my last day in the UK. Me and my wife (Smudge) have had a great time while we have been here. I wanted to come back to my home country because I was missing the English Christmas. Back in Hervey Bay the Christmas period is always hot and humid. Nothing like what I grew up experiencing. In my view, Christmas time should be cold and wet, with Christmas decorations everywhere and your ears bleeding from the never ending stream of Slade playing on the radio. The UK did not disappoint in that respect.
Our pub tour of Bath has taken us to over 60 pubs. More if you count the bars we visited outside Bath. We have seen the small county lanes that I am so fond of and wondered how people living in Bath manage to cope with what we think of as impossibly narrow streets and non-existent parking. I love the amazing shops of Bath. You get to wonder around the historic streets and have what seems like a never ending supply of one-off boutiques that sell stuff that you have never seen anywhere else. Just as well we are limited by how much we can take back on the airline. As it is we are having 20kg of purchases shipped back to Hervey Bay. On our way back we will be stopping over at Changi airport in Singapore and our ability to not spend money will no doubt be tested. Changi is one of those airports that you could spend your entire holiday at.
Our flight back to Australia will take the best part of two days. Add to that the jet lag that will accompany the flight, it might be a few days before I get to update again. When I do I hope to show you some more of the photos I have taken while here. I have not spent too much time behind the camera but I have managed to get a few good shots of my stay here. I will leave you with the image below of my great niece Alana and my sister Rachael (her nana). I took it this evening while I was saying goodbye to my family. I will miss them all greatly. Luckily the world is a smaller place these days with the internet bringing us all together.
